The ride from Southampton to Sauble beach is a great easy ride for those who are just getting started with road riding, or if you are just renting bikes for the day. It is a very flat course, but with great views looking out onto the lake as the entire route is along the water!
Leaving Southampton, you head up High Street from the flag and take a left turn onto Huron Street North, this takes you around to the bridge, where you cross and then take another left, on South Rankin Street, to stay along the water. You stay on South Rankin, which then turns into Blanchfield Road and then Eckford Avenue. Upon reaching the end of Eckford you veer left, merging onto Bruce Road 13 and hop into the bike lane! This road continues all the way to Sauble, but about 2/3rds of the way there you make a left onto Second Ave. This is a quieter side street and takes you right into downtown Sauble, where you can stop for breakfast, lunch or just a coffee before making your trip home.
This route was provided by Sam Weichel. Sam is a local cyclist and photographer from Southampton. He was born and raised here and loves what the area has to offer for riding. Sam has been riding and racing bikes for about five years now, competing all across Ontario as well as overseas at the Gran Fondo World Championships this past summer. "I really fell in love with everything cycling once I started working at Martin's Bicycle Shop. I have worked there for several years and the staff there have helped me fuel all my cycling adventures! These are some of my favourite routes in the area that I frequently use for training or just going to hang out with friends-nine times out of ten you can find me on one of these rides! Hope you enjoy them as much as I do."
